Cops and Kids
In December, the program formally known as “Shop with a Cop” and now referred to as “Cops and Kids,” was able to help 149 kids by taking them shopping this year in 2 events. One event was held at the Nimmo Wal-Mart and one at the Hilltop Target. Each child had $100 to spend and an officer to help them do it. We had 71 personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, 27 from the PD and 2 from the U. S. Marshalls who volunteered to help the children shop. Our Lodge was the biggest financial contributor, but we received $2000 from Wal-Mart, $2,500 from Target, $100 from the Uptown Tanning, $100 from Roger Shop, $100 from Bell Tone Audiology and Hearing Aid Center, $1,000 from the Frank Drew Community Fund, $500 from the Naval Aviators Association and $300 from the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 99 and $300 from the FOPA.
This will continue to be a successful program with next year’s fund raising already off to a good start with The Iron Shield’s donation of $500 from the first annual “Bikes on the Boardwalk” ride.
