The Virginia Beach FOP Lodge #8
held its 8th annual Shop with a Cop on December 16,
2006. With a sea of brown and blue flowing through the Wal-Mart
Store on Nimmo Parkway, 85 underprivileged children were taken
shopping and allowed to buy Christmas presents for themselves.
The
88 officers and volunteers from the Virginia Beach Police
Department, Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State
Police, NCIS, Probation and Parole Offices and Santa Clause,
were on hand and gave of their time to bring smiles to the faces
of the kids and help make sure that all of them had something
under their tree this Christmas. Each child was provided
$100.00 to shop, although some did go over with the expense
covered by the Lodge. The FOP Lodge was able to raise over
$9,000.00 this year, and the Wal-Mart Store donated $4,000.00,
once again being one of our biggest contributors. The Virginia
State FOP lodge also contributed $750.00 this year to help us
out. All of the children and Officers were treated to coffee,
juice and Christmas treats from Wal-Mart prior to going
shopping. In addition to providing the presents for the
children, the FOP Lodge donated $100.00 gift cards to three
families, who were experiencing financial difficulties and were
in need of food for the holidays. The FOP Lodge #8 would like
to thank all of those who volunteered and donated money for this
worthy cause.
Best Regards,
